I have 4 boxes full of letters at home, that’s what happens when you grow up without cell phones & without internet. But it gets even better when your family moves from one point of the planet to the other when you are 9 years old.
I remember when summers seemed to last forever, letters were the only way to communicate because long distance phone-calls were too expensive! Nowadays nobody sends letters anymore. Why??
Why, we, people, keep loosing the beautiful simple things in life.
It’s so nice to open the mailbox ( the real one) & find a letter, but it is also nice to throw a letter in the post office. It’s kind of exiting. Once it’s sent there are no regrets. There is no message to tell you if the letter has arrived, or if it has been read. You just have to wait.
But please don’t get me wrong, i mean, internet is great & It’s really nice that I don’t get any more letters from the bank & of course it’s good for the environment & the trees.
But there is something romantic & melancholic about letters. Boxes full of letters, you can read a hundred times, the paper turns old, the stamps, the addresses, everything brings you somewhere else. Letters have live, they have personality & voice. They have mistakes, drawings & handwritings. Only love letters have the power to save lonely hearts….love letters, love letters don’t kill trees.
